Baby blanket

The baby blanket handed over to Roshy by her mom.

Roshy’s Baby Shower:
Hotel Peninsula
Beverly Hills.
November 28th, 2009

Shobha, my daughter and I were invited to the Baby Shower of Roshy. She is the wife of my son-in-law Lall’s younger brother Gull. The valet at Hotel Peninsula took the car key from us and we were ushered inside by the hotel staff.
The room at the Peninsula Hotel reserved for the occasion was at the far end, The Magnolia Room. Gull, the father in waiting who is Rhoshy’s husband took over the escort and led us to the outside back door and then we were led to The Magnolia Room.
The decor of the room was not less than for a wedding. I can only say it was just overwhelming. There were four round tables and each could accommodate ten guests but ours was eleven. So altogether it was about forty one guests. The tables covered with the beautiful table cloths proudly displayed bouquets of flower in pink and white roses mixed with white hydrangeas. Each plate contained napkin folded artistically with an inserted rose. One couldn’t help but just admired the grandeur and the subtlety of the arrangement.
We were led to our assigned table where Gull’s side of relatives was supposed to be. I chose to sit next to Koshy, Gull’s mother. She in her wheel chair occupied the place of one chair. It was a proud moment for her to be with her youngest son and daughter-in-law who were welcoming their first baby.
There were few games like guessing the number of pretzels, candies, and cotton balls in the respective jars. Also there was the guessing game for the baby products like baby food and plastic soothing nipple. I could hardly tell anything since the baby days are long gone.
Another game was matching the names of the movie stars with the names of their children. Also there was a scavenger hunt for twenty items and whichever table had the maximum number of items was to get the prize.

The menu included

Mini Caviar Cake
Strawberries and Cream
Assorted tea Sandwiches
Egg Salad with Watercress on Marble bread
Charred Vegetable on Wheat Bread with Pesto Spread
Smoked Salmon with Cucumber
Preserved Lemon Chicken Salad with Marcona Almonds and Tarragon

Traditional Plain and Currant Scones served with Devonshire Cream and Fruit Preserves
Petite pastries.

Selection of Tropical Tisane, Belvedere Blend and Chai Tea.

Then Ms Manejeh Ghahremani, Roshy’s mom gave a speech which was straight from her heart. There was a packet in her hand which she slowly opened it to reveal a beautiful soft baby blanket trimmed with lace.
“It is the same blanket in which my little baby was wrapped when I brought her to USA about three decades ago. We were not allowed to bring anything with us when we left our country I hope this blanket is used to wrap her daughter who is also going to be my first granddaughter” She continued to say.
It was such a heartwarming speech and everyone clapped with words of appreciation.
Then she handed over the soft blanket to her daughter, Roshy who stood next to her. Both hugged each other and that embrace revealed the inseparable human bond of mother-daughter relationship.
Everyone clapped louder.
Then the unwrapping of gifts followed. After all the gifts were unwrapped and showed to the guests, everyone was ready to leave, one by one after saying goodbye to Roshy and her mom. It was a day to be remembered always.
